The Boston College football team looks to build on last weekend's huge win over ninth-ranked USC this afternoon as it hosts the FCS Maine Black Bears at Alumni Stadium, 1p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and broadcast on 93.7 FM and the BC IMG Sports Radio Network. Bob Piccozi and Matt Chatham are on the call.
The Black Bears are off to a 1-1 start to the season after dropping a 13-10 game to Bryant in week three. Maine opened the season with a 10-6 victory over Norfolk State. The Black Bears are led by head coach Jack Cosgrove, who has compiled a 122-122 record in 22 seasons at the helm of UMaine's football program. The Sharon, Mass. native played quarterback for Maine (1974-77) and has been with the program in some capacity every year since, save for a two-year stint as an offensive assistant at BC in 1985-86.
Boston College is riding high after its upset victory over ninth-ranked Southern California last Saturday night. The Eagles rolled up 452 yards of offense on the ground, including a career-high 191 from quarterback Tyler Murphy, to upset the Trojans.
This will be the eighth meeting between the two schools. Boston College and Maine have previously met seven times with the Black Bears winning the first three games in the series. The Eagles and Black Bears have only met three times in the non-leather helmet era, with BC winning all three contests by a combined score of 112-3. Boston College defeated Maine 34-3 in the last meeting between the two on September 8, 2012.
