It's game day, Eagles, as Boston College hosts ACC newcomers Louisville under the Alumni Stadium lights starting at 7:15 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN2. Bob Wischusen and Matt Millen are on the call.
This is the first meeting between the two programs as ACC Atlantic Division foes, and first since a 1998 game between the two won by Louisville, 52-28, in Kentucky.
Louisville comes into the matchup with a record of 6-3 (4-3 ACC). The Cardinals are coming off a heartbreaking 42-31 loss to #2 Florida State in which the Seminoles roared back to score 35 second-half points. In an odd scheduling twist, the BC-Louisville game will wrap up the Cardinals' first regular season in the conference. The Cardinals end the year with games at Notre Dame (Nov. 22) and in-state rival Kentucky (Nov. 29). Boston College still has three more conference games this season, ending the year at Florida State (Nov. 22) and vs. Syracuse (Nov. 29).
Head coach Bobby Petrino is back for his second go-round with Louisville. As coach of the Cardinals, Petrino is 47-12 overall and 28-9 in conference play (in three different conferences), leading the program to four straight bowl games, and culminating in a victory over Wake Forest in the 2006 Orange Bowl.
The Eagles (6-3, 3-2 ACC) are riding high, coming off a 33-31 victory over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to become bowl eligible for the second straight season under Addazio. With BC all but eliminated from ACC Atlantic Division title contention, the program now turns its attention to improving their bowl prospects with a few more wins over the final three games of the season.
Addazio and Petrino have crossed paths twice before as coaches in the SEC. Addazio was the assistant head coach at Florida when Petrino was head coach at Arkansas in 2008 and 2009. The Gators won both meetings, 38-7 and 23-20. This is the seventh meeting between the two schools. The all-time series is tied at 3 apiece.
