Boston College Football: Summer Camp Injury Updates

Some injuries have popped up. Who has BC lost, and who will step up for the Eagles?

Boston College is a little over a week away from opening their 2013 season against Villanova, and head coach Steve Addazio gave some updates to Heights Sports editor Austin Tedesco regarding injuries. Luckily at this point the major players for Boston College are healthy. Chase Rettig, Andre Williams, Kevin Pierre Louis, Matt Patchan and Alex Amidon all have made it this far without injuries. But what players are hurt? And what does it mean to the Eagles? Let's explore.

Josh Bordner (QB): It appeared that Bordner was in line to become the backup quarterback this season for the Eagles. But an undisclosed injury (wearing a knee brace) has kept him out of camp for the past week or so. Addazio confirmed today that Bordner was hurt, but has yet to rule him out for the Villanova game. The head coach also expressed his concerns about a lack of a quality backup right now.

What it means: Tedesco says that the backup job is now a two person race between Mike Marscovetra and freshman James Walsh. At this point we know what Marsco can give us, and if it came to it I think many would rather see Addazio give the opportunity to the young mobile QB.

Christian Suntrup (QB) Last Saturday the Boston Herald mentioned that they saw the young QB walking around the field during the scrimmage with a red shirt on. Looks like he might be lost for the season

What it means: At this point it's hard to get a read on what Suntrup's role would be with this team going forward. Before this season he wasn't getting many reps during scrimmages and practices. It hurts their depth at QB, but I wasn't expecting much from him anyways.

Tyler Rouse (RB) Continues to be left out of practice due to a hamstring issue. When he has played or practice the coaching staff has had lots of positive things to say about him.

What it means: Running back depth is an issue on this team, they can't afford to lose anyone

Tahj Kimble (RB) Addazio mentioned the other day that Kimble was battling some things and was being kept out of practice. No clue what that means long term. Kimble has had a hard time staying on the field, but could be an explosive threat if he can stay healthy.

What it means: Running back depth is an issue on this team, they can't afford to lose anyone.

Jake Sinkovec (FB) Tedesco mentioned today that the full back is out again, and that he could be missing significant time.

What it means: Shockingly redshirt freshman Bobby Wolford will be moving over to fullback to start the season. This is basically the same thing the Eagles did to Sinkovec as both were moved from linebacker to fullback.

Malachi Moore (DE) One of the most infuriating things last year was when Frank Spaziani burned Moore's redshirt in order to play him in a meaningless game well after the season was completely lost. Now his sophomore year is gone as well, as Addazio and Moore both confirmed that he will be missing the entire year due to an undisclosed medical issue.

What it means: The defensive line was already thin, and Moore could have gotten some of those reps. Tedesco reports that freshman Kevin Kavalac has impressed so far this summer. Could he be next in line to get some playing time?
