Kevin Lempa, Sean McGowan Complete 2013 Boston College Football Coaching Staff

The hires of Kevin Lempa and Sean McGowan complete Boston College football's 10-man coaching staff.

Boston College football coach Steve Addazio has finalized his coaching staff with the hires of Kevin Lempa and Sean McGowan. Lempa is a familiar face to those who have been around the program a number of years, and will actually be on his third stint with Boston College. Lempa previously served as the Eagles outside linebackers and special teams coach under Bicknell (1981-90) and defensive backs coach under Tom O'Brien (2003-06).

Lempa will coach the secondary in his third go-around with the Eagles.

"I'm excited to have Kevin [Lempa] be a part of the staff," Addazio said. "He will coach the secondary. Kevin has an extensive background here at Boston College having coached with Jack Bicknell and having coached with Tom O'Brien. He's recruited some of the finest players that have played here. He understands what Boston College is all about. His background goes back to Maine, to Boston College, to the San Diego Chargers, to being the defensive coordinator at Hawaii. He coached at Maryland with Don Brown. We are very excited to have Kevin back here to join our staff and know he will be a tremendous teacher and tremendous leader of our young men."

In between stints with Boston College, Lempa made career stops at Dartmouth (1991-96), the San Diego Chargers (1997-99), Hawaii (2000-02), Maryland (2007-10), Central Connecticut State (2011) and Columbia (2012). With Columbia, Lempa served as the Lions defensive coordinator and secondary coach for a season.

Addazio also confirmed the hire of Sean McGowan, originally reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer. McGowan has been named the special teams' coordinator and SAM linebackers/nickel package coach for BC. Prior to joining Addazio's staff at Boston College, McGowan had served as the linebackers coach at Temple.

McGowan takes former Boston College defensive coordinator Bill McGovern's spot on the staff. On Friday, McGovern was officially announced as the Philadelphia Eagles outside linebackers coach, joining Chip Kelly on the former Oregon head coach's first NFL coaching staff.

The hires of Lempa and McGowan complete Boston College football's 10-man coaching staff. It appears to be a well-rounded staff with a solid mix of skills and experience. Lempa and Brown are the two elder statesmen on the staff (a combined 71 years coaching) with Leonard and Fitch (28 and 26 years, respectively) not too far behind. Plus a good group of younger coaches that should prove capable on the recruiting trail. A recurrent theme with this group of coaches is that they all see the Boston College football value proposition and really want to be on the Heights. Nowhere to go but up.

My only complaint is that the staff didn't come together sooner, though I suppose when you only have a few spots to fill in the incoming recruiting class, you can make do with a smaller staff.
