Will Boston College football lose its next defensive coordinator before he even makes it to Chestnut Hill?
According to a report from Temple's Rivals.com affiliate OwlScoop.com, Temple defensive coordinator Chuck Heater will interview for the Owls vacant head coaching position today. The Philadelphia Inquirer previously reported that Addazio was expected to bring defensive coordinator Chuck Heater, offensive line coach Justin Frye and possibly associate head coach / quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers along with him to the Heights.
The 60-year old Heater has over 35 years of experience as a college football assistant / coordinator. Both Heater and Temple athletic director Bill Bradshaw did not return the Inquirer's phone calls, natch.
I have no idea what the chances are that Heater lands the vacant Temple head coaching position. If he does though, out of Addazio's remaining defensive coaches at Temple, only inside linebackers coach / special teams coordinator Sean McGowan has any experience as a college DC. McGowan was the defensive coordinator at New Hampshire, West Virginia Tech and Duquesne. Both the Owls' current outside linebacker coach Ben Albert and defensive line coach Sean Cronin have no previous experience as a DC.
If Heater does not join Addazio on the Eagles' staff, I'm hoping that Addazio looks beyond North Broad Street for the program's next DC.
