College Football Rankings Week 8: AP Top 25, Coaches Top 25, Sagarin Top 25

This week's college football polls are out, and for the second time this season, Boston College will host a top 25 opponent at home on the Heights. The Clemson Tigers (4-2, 2-1 ACC) check in as the 22nd team in the nation this week in the week's Coaches poll and 24th team in the AP poll.

Mississippi State overtakes Florida State as the nation's top team. The Bulldogs have won three straight games over top 10 opponents, dispatching #8 LSU 34-29, #6 Texas A&M 48-31 and #2 Auburn 38-23 over the last four weekends. Florida State is down one spot this week to #2 after taking care of Syracuse, 38-20. The Seminoles (6-0, 4-0 ACC) are halfway home to another perfect season, though a home game against 5th ranked Notre Dame looms large this weekend.

Earlier this season, Boston College knocked off then-9th ranked USC at home, 37-31. The Trojans are back in both major polls this week, checking in at #22 in the AP and 25th in the Coaches.

From the ACC, Duke (45), Georgia Tech (11), Louisville (7) and Virginia (1) all received votes in the AP poll, while Duke (70) and Georgia Tech (14) were the only teams to receive votes in the Coaches Poll.

Interesting to see the differences between the human polls and one of the computer rankings (Sagarin). Pollsters have the Seminoles as the second best team in the nation, but Sagarin has FSU checking in at #11 this week. Same story for Notre Dame, which is ranked 5th this week by the humans but only 13th by the computer. It's a different story for Clemson, which re-enters the AP poll at #24 and jumps to #22 in the Coaches, while Sagarin ranks the Tigers as the 18th best team in the country.
