I thought maybe Boston College and Army officials were going to wait until 11:59 Eastern to make the final announcement -- oh, the suspense! -- but ADs Brad Bates and Boo Corrigan got the play off with a few seconds left on the play clock.

It's officially official. Football will be played this weekend on the Heights.

"I'm pleased to announce we will host the US Military Academy this Saturday," Director of Athletics Brad Bates said. "I'm thrilled our students and those from the service academies will get to play their games this weekend. Thank you, fans, for your patience and understanding the past couple of days. Also, thanks to Army AD Boo Corrigan, who has been terrific through this process."

Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. The game will be televised on ESPN3.

Nice work by both Brad Bates and Boo Corrigan on getting this done, keeping the communication lines with fans open and remaining transparent throughout the process. Going forward though, perhaps Boston College should avoid scheduling service academies in the days after the start of the federal government's new fiscal year. You know, just to be safe.
