Boston College Opens As 6-Point Favorite Over Syracuse

Uhh....okay?

NCAA Football: Boston College at Syracuse Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Boston College football returns on Saturday after a bye week to take on Syracuse at home. Despite the Eagles being mired in an historic conference losing streak, and despite Syracuse’s impressive win over Virginia Tech on Saturday, Las Vegas has faith in the Eagles, installing BC as six-point favorites to defeat the Orange.

This obviously marks the first time BC has been favored in an ACC game this season; they were slight underdogs in Ireland against Georgia Tech, and heavier underdogs against Virginia Tech and Clemson. It will probably be the last time they’re favored in ACC play this year as well, unless their fortunes change pretty quickly in these next few games.

Whether you agree or disagree with the spread, the fact that BC is listed as the favorite just reinstates the urgency surrounding this game. There won’t be many games left this year where BC is considered to be on level-ish footing with the opponent; even NC State and Wake look a lot better than we might have thought at the start of the season. So if this season is to be anything other than a complete disaster, BC needs a win Saturday.

Do you think BC as a favorite makes sense?
