For the first time this season, Boston College has a game with a posted points spread. Yesterday afternoon, SportsBookReview.com posted the opening line for Friday night's game between Boston College and Florida State, which installed FSU as 10-point favorites.
Since the opening line went up, it appears that the early action has been on the Eagles, as the line has gone down on every one of the sports books listed on the site. Now, the spread in favor of FSU ranges between -7.5 and -8 across the various books, and generally speaking, the odds are disincentivizing folks to take the points; taking BC and the points will pay out less at this moment than picking FSU to cover.
Although Florida State has won 5 straight games against Boston College dating back to 2009, the Eagles have played FSU tough each of the past two seasons, including last year's heartbreaking 3 point loss on a late field goal. Last season, the Eagles were 18.5 point underdogs heading on the road to the then-#1 team in the nation. In 2013, BC was a 24 point 'dog to the eventual national champions and put forth a credible effort before fading late and losing 48-34.
It looks as though if BC's going to beat the spread for the third straight season against FSU, it's going to be a very close game. We'll keep our eyes on Sports Book Review, which summarizes the odds across a number of online sports books, for any updates to the line to see if the experts and the general public continue to expect the Eagles to keep this one close.
What do you think? Are you expecting a one-score game on Friday night? Or would you have expected FSU to assume their more usual role of being something along the lines of two-touchdown favorites?
