Name: Mike Giacone
Position: Tight End
Number: #88
Year: Senior
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 254 lbs.
Hometown: Westfield, NJ
High School: St. Peter's Prep
2013 Stats: Played in nine games for the Eagles. Did not record a catch.
2014 Stats: Saw action in all 13 games last season.
2015 Projections: Giacone has established himself as solid run blocking tight end. In his three years as tight end with the Eagles he hasn't made a catch yet, so I don't think he's going to magically turn into a receiving tight end in 2015. If BC decides to throw to the TE like they did with C.J. Parsons in 2013. However, I still believe that Giacone has a valuable role on the team as blocking tight end, and will continue to play that role, effectively in 2015.
How'd He Get Here: A 3* tight end, Mike as the 33rd ranked tight end in the 2012 class. He chose Boston College over claimed offers from Connecticut, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers, Temple, Tulane, UCF and Wake Forest. Originally committed to Rutgers but flipped his commitment to BC later in the process. He was recruited by former defensive coordinator Bill McGovern.
Twitter Feed: Negative
Uniform History: There is a pretty rich history of tight ends and defensive ends that have donned the #88. The first known player to wear the number was Frank Grywalski an end for the Eagles from 1962-1964. Other memorable Eagles that have worn the number would include Russell Joyner, a defensive end who was captain of the Eagles in 1982. Ivan Caesar a linebacker who went on to play two seasons in the NFL with Philadelphia and Minnesota, he played for the Eagles in the late 1980s. Adam Newman a defensive lineman who started for the Eagles in 1997 and 1998. Finally Chris Miller and Jordon McMichael both were accomplished tight ends in the 2000s.
