The Book: College Football Playoff National Championship

The Book and the staff of BCI makes their College Football Playoff Title game picks.

James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Seventeen weeks of games brings us to a historic and final encounter. Tonight at 8:30 PM in Arlington, Texas, Oregon and Ohio State will meet for the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship. Both teams were extremely impressive in their semi-final wins, with Oregon and Heisman winner Marcus Mariota ending Florida State's 29-game winning streak and Ohio State and their third string quarterback Cardale Jones slaying the mighty SEC and Alabama.

To say that the CFP has captured the country's attention would be a colossal understatement. The semi-final games set all-time cable television records as the most-watched broadcasts of any sort and a similar audience should be expected to tune into ESPN tonight.

The Book had a good, but not spectacular bowl season, going 19-17 with the title game still to play and had two games with identical spreads to Vegas. This will put to an end a six-year streak of winning more than losing against the Wise Guys (339-348-9 currently), but all in all, with the adjustments we have made to the rankings system, The Book showed quite well.

If you recall, The Book had Oregon as the #1 team in the country for the past several weeks and has been on the Ohio State bandwagon as well, ranking the Buckeyes #4 heading into the bowl games, #3 now.  It was also successful in picking both semi final games correctly (Oregon -15 and had the Tide/Buckeyes as Even, so took OSU and the points).

A did you know on this one...Did you know that Ohio State is 295-1-1 in games all time where they score 35 points or more? The tie is a 35-35 tie with SMU in 1978. The loss was in last season's Orange Bowl to Clemson, 40-35.

We asked the BCI Staff and of course, The Book, for their predictions of the National Title game...here goes!
