Boston College Football Holds 76th Annual Scanlan Banquet

Whole lot of dudes.

BC Athletics

Boston College football's regular season is over, and to celebrate the team, administration and coaching staff gathered fro the 76th Annual Scanlan Award in Gasson Hall. The ceremony was created to honor Thomas Scalan, a fullback who played for three years for the Eagles, foregoing one year to serve in World War I.

The William Flynn Award, which is awarded to the Eagles' MVP, was given to senior transfer Tyler Murphy. While lighting up the Heights with his electric runs, Murphy broke the single season record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1079.

The Jay McGillis Memorial Scholarship was given out in the spring to Dominique Williams, but he was honored again at the banquet. This award is given to a defensive back "who best exemplifies the personal qualities of team dedication and leadership by example, an extraordinary competitive spirit, and personal concern for family, friends and teammates." Williams has been a starter all season, and is fifth on the team with 55 tackles.

The Scanlan Award, the highest honor given to a player, was given to senior wide receiver Josh Bordner, a converted wide receiver who finished his first season at the position as the team's leader in receiving touchdowns. The award is given each year to a senior who best exemplifies the ideals of Tom Scanlan. Throughout the season, Bordner was a crucial member of the offense and was a superb blocker, lining up all over the field. BC had a great season rushing, and it wouldn't have been possible without Bordner.

Other awards given out included:

The Coaches Award (for determination, enthusiasm and spirit): Brian Mihalik and Seth Betancourt
Paul Cavanaugh Award (for work on and off the field): Andy Gallik
Unsung Hero Award: Jarrett Darmstatter
Perservance Award: Manuel Asprilla
Big Play Award: Josh Keyes
Loyalty Award: Sean Duggan

And then Coach Addazio led the team in a rendition of For Boston. Congrats to all the seniors, you have made us proud to be Eagles.
