Better late than never...well maybe some of you don't think so..but never fear, after a week of technical and computational malfunction..we return!
Can you believe its now been 123 consecutive weeks since your Eagles made their way into the Book, or for that matter any "major service" poll? BC's last appearance in either poll came in the final poll of the 2007 season, when the Eagles finished off an 11-3 campaign by beating Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl, behind a bruising defense and a quarterback named Matt Ryan.
BC would finish #11 in the national polls and #11 in The Book poll as well.
123 straight weeks.
The Eagles travel now to Blacksburg, where on a magical night seven year ago, Ryan authored the dramatic fourth quarter comeback to lead the #2 ranked Eagles to the 14-10 win over Virginia Tech. (I digress again).
This year, The Book says Hokies by 4, so with the Vegas spread at 5, it leans toward BC...and its lean has usually been spot on. With last week's pick of Wake Forest, The Book is now 6-1 ATS on Eagle games in 2014.
BC did drop slightly in the overall national rankings to #47, but rose slightly in the ACC rankings to #7, benefiting mostly from the Hokies coughing up a turkey leg last Thursday night at Lane Stadium against Miami.
On the national scene, despite its loss, the Ole Miss Rebels kept our #1 overall ranking. It isn't as crazy as you might imagine though. The Massey Composite rankings still list the Rebels at #2 and of the 117 computer rankings listed there are 15 that think the same way The Book does keeping them at #1.
Against Vegas, I did have my shampoo, soap and towel out last week, ready to take my bath, but the water didn't apparently work. Even though things looked pretty ugly, The Book managed to stay status quo, going 22-22 .500 for the week, now standing at 199-192-5 .509 for the season. Even that Michigan-Michigan State game I called out last week, actually was a win, with The Book taking Sparty and laying 25 1/2.
To be honest, this week scares me as much as last does, so I haven't put away the toiletries quite yet.
The Sleeper pick and The Toilet Bowl game both were in the crapper last week, so we are 4-4 for the Sleeper and 3-5 for the Toidy. This week, against my better judgement, we've got #128 Georgia State getting 6 at #122 Appalachian State (Vegas gives the Panthers 7) and in the Sleeper game, yes our Eagles make an appearance, as mentioned above, getting 4 at VaTech.
Check out the polls, the spreads and enjoy your football Saturday!
Go Eagles!
