Boston College Field Hockey played their game of the NCAA tournament on Friday afternoon against the Northwestern Wildcats and came away victorious. BC scored in the final minute of both halves to win 2-1 and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals.
The Eagles were the better team throughout the afternoon, putting several shots on goal in the first half and earning a couple corners, but couldn’t break the deadlock until the final seconds of the first half. Margo Carlin scored with just 30 seconds to play in the half to give the Eagles the lead heading into the break.
The game stayed 1-0 for much of the second half until the fourth quarter when Northwestern scored off a corner to tie the game at 1-1. It looked like the Eagles were in for their first overtime game of the season until Elizabeth Warner scored for BC on a corner of their own with just a minute left to play in regulation to make it 2-1.
And that’s how the game would end, giving the Eagles the victory and advancing them to the NCAA quarterfinals. BC will take on #4 seeded Louisville in Louisville on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm with a trip to the Final Four on the line!
