It was not a good day to be a Quinnipiac Bobcat in Chestnut Hill.
Right around the time the Boston College men’s soccer team was finishing off their scorching first half against Quinnipiac, scoring three goals in the opening 45 minutes, BC and QU took to the turf about 500 feet away to start the 2017-18 field hockey season.
This one didn’t go any better for Quinnipiac.
Jaime Natale opened up the season's scoring with her first career goal for the Eagles just 10 minutes in, and Cassidy Atchison followed up 5 minutes later, giving BC an early 2-0 lead they'd never relinquish on a pleasant late-summer night on the law school campus.
BC dominated play from the word go, outshooting Quinnipiac 21-4 on the evening. Five different Eagles hit the back of the net, with Frederique Haverhals, Elizabeth Warner and Kaitie Fink notching their first goals of the season. Natale added her second of the day at the 61 minute mark.
Quinnipiac picked up a consolation goal in the final minutes when Lauren Belskie ripped a shot off the post and in, breaking up an otherwise easy stroll for BC goalkeeper Sarah Dwyer.
Importantly, four of the BC goals were scored by freshmen - Natale (x2), Atchinson, and Warner. This young infusion of talent will be critical if BC is to make another NCAA run this season.
The Eagles look to improve to 2-0 on the year when they host Albany this Sunday at 1 PM on Newton Campus.
