The winner of BC-Penn State will take on the winner of No. 4 seed and host Syracuse (15-5) and Boston University (13-7) on Sunday for the chance to advance to the Final Four in Maryland.
Boston College and Penn State did not meet during the regular season, though the Eagles defeated both Syracuse (3-2 OT) and Boston University (2-1 OT) earlier this season. The Orange avenged its regular season loss to the Eagles in the first round of the ACC Championship, knocking off BC 5-2.
This will be the second ever meeting between the two programs. Penn State picked up a 2-0 win over Boston College back in 2000. The Nittany Lions have qualified for the NCAA Tournament 30 of 33 years, advancing to the Final Four on seven separate occasions.
A total of six ACC programs made this year's tournament, with ACC schools claiming five (!) of the eight at-large berths. Virginia (12-8, 4-2 ACC), which captured a share of the regular season title, was the only ACC program to miss this year's tournament field.
