Boston College Daily Links: Florida State Basketball Making Tourney Push

Daily links for Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

Sup, Tuesday.

Big day of Boston College athletics ahead as the men's basketball team hosts Florida State at Conte Forum. Tip is at 9 PM and the game will be televised on ESPNU. Over spring break? At least the ACC schedule-makers have a sense of humor.

Baseball starts a two-game, midweek set against the Florida Atlantic Owls and looks to rebound following the loss to Western Michigan. Softball is in Gainesville for a game against No. 1 Florida before taking on UCF and Jacksonville on Wednesday.

On to the links:

If Florida State has been anything this year, it’s been unpredictable. They’ve fought down to the last second versus the elite of college basketball and have faded away early against middling teams. Hockey

MONTHLY HONORS: BC'S GAUDREAU EARNS THIRD MONTHLY NOD (HockeyEast.com)
Back-of-the-envelope math here, but looks like there are five months of the college hockey season in the books. Gaudreau has been named the Hockey East player of the month for three of those months. That's pretty good.

His linemate Johnny Gaudreau gets more headlines, but Hayes' 6-foot-2, 200-plus pound frame allows him to play a power forward game. It's something coach Jerry York is trying to get him to do more of, and when he's at his best, he looks a lot like a David Backes.

Gophers hockey regains No. 1 ranking over Boston College (Star Tribune)
The Gophers men’s hockey team reclaimed No. 1 in the United States College Hockey Online poll on Monday. Notre Dame’s weekend upset of Boston College (25-5-4) cleared the way for the Gophers (23-4-5), and they took care of the rest with a sweep of Penn State at Mariucci Arena.

Boston College Among Top Universities at Olympics (BCEagles.com)
Boston College ranked sixth among all universities in medals won by alumni or current student athletes with three, as announced in a study by NerdScholar. Alex Carpenter, Molly Schaus and Kelli Stack each earned a silver medal with the U.S. Women's Olympic Hockey Team in Sochi. The University of Minnesota and Westminster College topped the list, with five medals each.
