THE! Ohio State University announced yesterday that former Boston College Women’s Hockey defender Hadley Hartmetz will be joining the Buckeyes for the 2021-2022 season. Her social media profiles have been updated to show that she’s a member of the Buckeyes’ roster as well.
Hartmetz played the last two years at Boston College and was one of the top defenders on the squad. She put up a 1-13—14 line in 19 games in the COVID-shortened 2020-2021 season — certainly not bad offensive numbers for a D — but was more than just about scoring. She put up a +17 in 19 games as a great all-around defender and her presence on the blue line will really be missed. Before BC she was a two-time member of the USA U18 team as well as a member of the U22 team while a freshman on the Heights.
The Eagles should still be just fine on defense despite Hartmetz’ departure. Thanks to a solid freshman class and a lack of graduating players, BC will still have a full unit to play with. Nonetheless, it’ll take some adjustment to replace the significant minutes that Hartmetz was on the ice.
Best of luck to Hadley as she continues her career in Columbus with the Buckeyes.
