Finally, at last, Boston College Women’s Hockey is back in the win column!
After riding a 7 game winless streak dating back to November 23rd, the Eagles found a way to get the victory on Friday night, though they did so pretty unconventionally. Neither team opted to bring much in the way of defense to the rink, but it was the Eagles who found a winner late in a wild, back and forth, comeback win over the Vermont Catamounts by a score of 7-5.
Look at that box score! That box score is drunk, friends.
Looking back at it, it seems almost impossible, but the Eagles actually scored first in this one to take a 1-0 lead just seconds into the game. That probably should have been a warning to us all for the type of game we were about to witness, but if it wasn’t, Vermont scoring less than three minutes later definitely was. The Catamounts found another one before the end of the first period to take a 2-1 lead into the second period, and those of us hoping for a big BC get-right effort were left feeling more than a little miffed.
Then, the second period threw the whole game on its head. The teams alternated for six goals over the course of the middle frame, with BC tying the game twice before Vermont pulled away for a two goal lead with under two minutes left in the period. More than a little frustrating for the Eagles after tying the game back up twice, but BC still had some fight in them as Lindsay Agnew scored a goal in the waning seconds of the 2nd period to bring the Eagles back to within one and really put some belief back into the bench.
Then the Eagles finally pieced together some all-around solid hockey in the third period. BC found their tying goal with plenty of time left on the clock to go for the win, thanks to Delaney Belinskas completing her hat trick with a goal in each period. That made it 5-5, and while it looked for a bit that the two teams would need overtime, Savannah Norcross played the hero with a goal with just 1:54 to play in regulation.

Freshman Hannah Bilka iced the game with an empty netter in the last minute, and the Eagles secured their victory.
I’m sure this type of game wasn’t exactly what the coaching staff had in mind when they drew up the game plan this week to get back in the win column, but they’ll certainly take it. And with the fight BC had to show over the course of 60 minutes to come back three separate times and then scoring four unanswered over the last 21 minutes and take the win, hopefully this is the sort of game that galvanizes the team.
