The Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), a union of the best women’s hockey players in the world working toward the formation of a single, viable women’s hockey league, announced today via press release a series of showcase events called the “Dream Gap Tour.”
Our friends over at The Ice Garden have a breakdown of the full announcement, but buried in the press release was an interesting tidbit that the PWHPA would also be playing an exhibition game against Boston College at Conte Forum on September 21st.
The PWHPA is not a league but a player’s union, with most of the best players on the planet joining together to push toward a viable professional league. The release lists Hilary Knight, Marie-Philip Poulin, Sarah Nurse, Natalie Spooner, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Amanda Kessel, Monique Lamoureux-Morando, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, Brianna Decker, Noora Räty, Renata Fast, and Brianne Jenner as some of the players participating in the PWHPA series — all of whom make up what is essentially an international all-star team, including not just the USA and Canadian Olympians but also some from elsewhere, including Räty, the Finnish goaltender who might be the best in the world.
No details yet from Boston College on the game, but it’s likely that the event will be free to attend. If you’re in the area, you would have a rare opportunity to see a host of the world’s best players on the ice at one time, right at Conte Forum!
