For the second straight year, the Team USA Under-18 team will have a BC influence on the coaching staff.
Boston College Women’s Hockey Associate Head Coach Courtney Kennedy was named to the USA U18 coaching staff this week as assistant coach. It’s the second season in a row that she’s held the position. She was also an assistant coach in ‘12-’13 and ‘13-’14.
Last season’s U18 team, with Kennedy as assistant coach, took the gold medal in last year’s IIHF Women’s U18 World Championships.
Having a BC coach behind the bench for the U18 team is big for the BC women’s hockey program. The U18 National Teams are the primary source for top-level talent entering the college game, with recruiting classes routinely compared by how many players from the American and Canadian U18 teams each program managed to snag. Having Kennedy in particular on the staff is great for BC, as Kennedy does a lot of recruiting work for the Eagles.
Congratulations to Coach Kennedy, and hopefully she can lead the young Americans to another gold (and bring some of them to the Heights as well)!
