Meet The Eagles, Boston College Men’s Hockey: Ryan Edquist

The Eagles will be very glad to have senior leadership between the pipes this season

COLLEGE HOCKEY: FEB 12 Beanpot Tournament - Consolation Game - Boston College v Harvard

Name: Ryan Edquist

Number: 35

Position: Goaltender

Class Year: Senior

Background: Edquist came into BC in the same class as Joe Woll, so he’s mostly played a backup role in his three years at Boston College. But the Eagles are very, very fortunate to have him — Edquist might be one of the best backup tenders in the country and would probably start for most teams. He came in with really good numbers from the USHL and even played for Team USA’s U17 team at Five Nations before coming to the Heights. Knowing the Eagles have a strong 1a in the wings — particularly one who is a senior — is a really reassuring feeling.

2019-20 Outlook: The good news for Edquist is that Joe Woll went pro after his junior season. The bad news, though, is the Eagles have brought in arguably the most talented young goaltender in a generation, Spencer Knight, to replace him. That will largely keep Edquist in his backup role, but if he’s needed, he’ll be a really good option for the Eagles to slot in.

Fun Fact: Edquist has a game-winning assist on his record — an assist on Chris Grando’s game-winner on November 11th, 2017 in his sophomore season.
