We’ve been getting a lot of questions about BC’s updated position in the Hockey East Tournament picture. We’re going to answer all of these questions in our new series, Frequently Asked Questions.
Q: So, don’t sugarcoat it: how bad was the loss to Providence.
A: Bad.
Q:...how bad?
A: Really, really bad.
Q: ...you could have sugarcoated it a little bit...
A: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Q: So why is it bad?
A: So it’s a double edged sword. BC needed to win against Providence in order to have a chance at the sixth seed. Now Maine has clinched the sixth seed and BC is resigned to seventh... or lower.
Additionally, BC would have clinched the seventh seed with a win. Now BC is perilously close to the eighth seed.
Q: Why is that?
A: UNH is currently one point behind BC in the standings. UNH also owns the tiebreaker over the Eagles. Essentially, all UNH needs to do Friday evening is get a tie and they’ll knock BC back to eighth.
Q: Wait so does the Maine game matter?
A: Not in the slightest.
Q: Why?
A: BC can’t overtake them now. BC can’t finish better than seventh.
Q: So the only game that matters is the UNH game?
A: Yep.
Q: Yeah, this is bad.
A: Yep.
