Meet The Eagles, BC Men’s Hockey Edition: Aapeli Räsänen

Get to know #22

NCAA Hockey: Frozen Four-Quinnipiac vs Boston College Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Another Finn! Except for this Finn, we will have to copy and paste his name anytime we use it. Fun!

Name: Aapeli Räsänen

Number: 22

Position: Forward

Class Year: Freshman

Drafted: 153rd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2016.

Background: Räsänen has played for Finland’s junior national teams for the last couple years, as well as for Sioux City of the USCHO in 2016-2017 putting up a nice 7-18—25 line in 38 games. In the 2017 IIHF World Junior championship, he and the Mattilas were named Finland’s top 3 players — BC Finnterruption, indeed.

2017-18 Outlook: Räsänen has the potential to be one of the top scorers among the freshmen this year, depending on where he slots into the lineup. He should be on one of the top 3 lines, and could certainly see top 6 time should Jerry decide to give him a shot up there.

Fun Fact: According to BCEagles.com, his full name is AAPELI YRJÖ JOHANNES RÄSÄNEN which cannot possibly be right.

Official BC Interruption Player Hashtag: #MaaliAapeli (although I’m personally a fan of #MorseCode)
