Meet The Eagles, BC Men’s Hockey Edition: Joe Woll

Get to know #31

John Quackenbos, BC Athletics

Can you believe this is just Joe Woll’s second season on the Heights? Maybe it’s because of how confidently he played as a freshman, but it feels like he’s already been here a while. It’s a good feeling.

Name: Joe Woll

Number: 31

Position: Goaltender

Class Year: Sophomore

Drafted: 62nd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2016

Background: Joe Woll came to BC with an exceptional pedigree. He played two seasons with the US National Team Development Program, and helped Team USA earn an IIHF U18 bronze medal. He was thrown right into the fire at BC, starting 34 games and posting a 17-13-3 record. His stats were middle of the pack in the NCAA, but after the Eagles lost several players to the pros prior to his rookie season, he certainly passed the eyeball test and impressed us from the get go — freshman or not.

2017-18 Outlook: We may be in for a similar season for Joe Woll, where he is forced to keep BC in some games and his stats probably won’t reflect just how good he is. With the Eagles so ludicrously young (19 of our 25 players are underclassmen... Jesus...), Woll is probably going to be the most important player on the roster.

Fun Fact: Joe Woll’s go-to pump-up music is “Martin Garrix.” I have absolutely no idea who that is.
