In a vacuum, Boston College outscoring the Duke Blue Devils 48-40 in a half would be something that Eagles fans could take with them as a indication of improvement.
Yet halves aren’t in vacuums. Despite a strong second half performance by the Eagles, 17 turnovers — and 24 first half points for Duke off those turnovers, put the game out of reach for the Eagles, and BC fell to Duke 93-82 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Early on in the game, BC kept up with the Blue Devils, even leading by as much as five points. However, from the 15:53 moment on into halftime, the Blue Devils outscored the Eagles 53-34, putting the game out of reach.
In the second half, the Eagles mounted a comeback, aided by a reduction of turnovers. BC’s Jerome Robinson put up 19 second half points after missing all attempts from the field. Yet the 19 point deficit going into halftime was too much for the Eagles to overcome.
BC returns home to face NC State on Jan. 11.
