Boston College Basketball: The Defense Is Offensive, Part II

New, 6 comments

The Boston College men's basketball defense ... still offensive.

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

Revisiting where Boston College hoops ranks in Ken Pomeroy's adjusted defensive efficiency (AdjD) and adjusted offensive efficiency (AdjO) through the first 12 games of the season (through the games of Sunday, December 22).

AdjO 4 53 20 6 16 79 37 55 14 294 45 27
AdjD 199 22 50 108 130 150 154 110 226 185 192 304

Yikes.

Boston College's offense is still pretty efficient, ranking fourth in the conference behind Duke (2), Syracuse (9) and Pittsburgh (13). That defense though ... BC's defense ranks 304th nationally (of 351); nearly 200 spots behind the second worst defense in the conference (N.C. State at 113).

The defense remains so far behind the offense that Boston College is now the proud owner of the largest discrepancy between AdjO and AdjD in the nation.

1. Boston College -277 (AdjO 27, AdjD 304)
2. Lafayette -276 (50, 326)
3. Duquesne -261 (72, 333)
4. San Francisco -249 (57, 306)
5. Nevada -239 (68, 307)
6. Georgia State -239 (39, 278)
7. Texas Southern -238 (87, 326)
8. Oakland (Mich.) -236 (59, 292)
9. Rider -235 (60, 295)
10. LIU Brooklyn -230 (119, 349)

More bad news: four of the next six opponents have an AdjO that ranks in the top 64 in the nation -- Syracuse (9), North Carolina (31), Harvard (44), VCU (64)
