Top 5 Boston College Basketball Games Of 2013-14

With UConn, Syracuse, Notre Dame, UNC and Duke all on the schedule this season, which games are most highly anticipated this season for the Eagles?

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The schedule looks very different that last year for the Eagles. Boston College will travel to New York City for three games which include two at Madison Square Garden and one at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame all return to Conte as old Big East rivalries are renewed. So with all the options, here are the top 5 games I am looking forward to this season and you should be too as a BC fan.

5. #14 Va. Commonwealth Rams 12/28/13 Brooklyn, NY

Boston College will play VCU 3 days after Christmas on Saturday night in Brooklyn at the Barclay's Center. This should be a competitive game and BC will have the opportunity to show they belong in the NCAA Tournament conversation with a national TV audience. With a large contingent of BC alums and fans in the New York City area, the Eagles should have decent support as their fans have what will probably be a rare opportunity to see their team in the new Brooklyn arena.

4. vs. #4 Duke Blue Devils 2/8/14 Chestnut Hill, MA

Any time you welcome Duke into your building you know you have a sellout and it will be one of the biggest games of the year the students will look forward too. Duke is picked to win the ACC once again and should be the best team to come to Conte Forum this season. After BC almost knocked off the Blue Devils last season in Conte, there will be high hopes that they will be able to pull off the upset this time. Most seasons Duke at home would be #1 on this list, but the schedule is special this year.

3. vs. #21 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2/16/14 Chestnut Hill, MA

It's not football but Notre Dame is still a rival of BC in any sport. With Notre Dame now in the ACC for basketball, this will be the first meeting between Notre Dame and BC since BC left the Big East for the ACC. Since their last meeting was 2005, I expect BC fans to be a little more excited for this game than the Duke game.

2. vs. #18 Connecticut Huskies 11/21/13 New York, NY

BC will play UConn at Madison Square Garden this year just like they used to meet in the Big East Tournament, however this game will be played only two weeks into the season. UConn used to be the #1 game on the Eagles' schedule back in the Big East days because of the quality of the UConn basketball program and the proximity of the two schools. If this game happened later in the season, it would be the #1 game on this list, but being so early and ultimately having no bearing on either team's ranking late in the season, it falls to #2. A win for BC in this game though could go a ways for BC's perception early in the season and might give us bragging rights on UConn for a while. Being in New York though, it will definitely be a UConn crowd.

1. vs. #8 Syracuse Orange 1/13/13 Chestnut Hill, MA

BC welcomes Syracuse back to Conte Forum in January for the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. Unfortunately it will fall while students are not at school but it will easily sell out as the old Big East rival comes to BC. Syracuse has been picked by some people to win the ACC in their first season in the league so hoping that the Eagles can pull out one of two games against the Orange is exactly that - hoping. However, back in 2001 when Al Skinner took the Eagles from no post season tournament action to winning the Big East, it was a home win against Syracuse that showed the league the Eagles had arrived. Maybe Donahue can use this game as the same spring board this season.
