Providence Freshmen Brandon Austin, Rodney Bullock Suspended Indefinitely

PC suspends two players ahead of the season opener vs. Boston College.

USA TODAY Sports

Providence coach Ed Cooley has announced that freshmen Brandon Austin and Rodney Bullock have been suspended from game action indefinitely for not upholding their responsibilities as student-athletes.

"We hold our student-athletes to very high standards," Providence College Men's Basketball Coach Ed Cooley said. "We are disappointed in some of the choices that Brandon and Rodney have made. Due to this, we have decided to suspend them indefinitely from any game action."

Word that Austin and Bullock have been suspended comes days after news that starting PG Kris Dunn may miss the season opener vs. Boston College with a right shoulder injury suffered in an exhibition game vs. Rhode Island College.

Of the two players, Austin was the more highly touted high school recruit. The Philadelphia product was expected to vie for the Friars starting small forward role and at 6-foot-6, is versatile enough to play the 1, 2 or 3. Bullock, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Virginia, is more of an unknown going into the season, but was expected to be a key contributor coming off the Friars bench.
