Boston College Basketball: PF Shawntrez Davis Selects Texas Tech

Kind of a bummer way to start off your Friday.

Three-star power forward recruit Shawntrez Davis has reportedly signed with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, according to multiple sources. Davis, a 6'8" Georgia native, spurred offers from Boston College, among other schools.

Davis, listed as a four-star prospect by some media outlets, is considered a "rebounding machine" by ESPN and has a good combination of length and strength. He would have been a huge get for head coach Jim Christian, but instead he becomes the fourth commit for Tubby Smith and the Big XII's Red Raiders.

Boston College originally recruited Davis through assistant coach Preston Murphy, who offered the big man a scholarship. But Murphy recently departed The Heights. While that didn't necessarily play into the young man's decision, it's worth noting at least from a fan's perspective.

While it's good to see Jim Christian's program in the mix for top talented recruits, it's a blow that Boston College could not land a recruit who would have injected much needed life into the front court. The Eagles now have to reboot their recruiting search and hunt down some other talent to see who can come in to fill the void they have in their lineup. Idy Diallo is still on the roster, but BC would almost assuredly love to add a big body to bruise on the boards and help a team that, at times, struggled to clean the glass.

Best of luck to Davis in his future endeavors and best wishes for him for success in the Big XII.
