If we've learned anything from this disastrous Boston College baseball season, it's that next year's non-conference schedule should feature much more Ivy League. The Eagles took third place in the 23rd Annual Beanpot Tournament with a 7-2 win over Harvard in the consolation game. BC is 3-0 on the year against Ivy League opponents, outscoring them 24-13.
BC improves to 9-35 on the year and is now 31-14-1 all-time in the Beanpot. After losing nine straight, the Eagles have won three of four.
"Junior LHP Steve Green (1-0) earned his first win of the year, tying career highs with five innings pitched and four strikeouts. He gave up five hits, one run and walked one. Freshman RHP John Nicklas pitched three innings of relief without giving up a run. He allowed just one hit, two walks and struck out two.
Freshman Joe Cronin led the way for the Maroon and Gold with a 3-for-4 performance with a walk, stolen base and a run. Senior Matt McGovern tallied two RBIs on a 1-for-3 day while junior John Hennessy was 2-for-5 with a run batted in.
Harvard starter RHP Matt Timoney (0-3) shouldered the loss, going four innings and allowing six hits, three runs -two earned - two walks and two strikeouts."
The Eagles are back in action this afternoon as they take on the Rhode Island Rams at 3 p.m.
