Even though the school year is winding down, there are still a few athletic events for good causes worth checking out this weekend.
One is the men's lacrosse team's inaugural Red Bandana Game this Sunday, April 28 against Buffalo. The club team, a perfect 9-0-0 on the year and ranked 9th nationally in the latest LaxPower.com MCLA Division 1 poll, takes on PCLL league rival Buffalo at noon inside Alumni Stadium.
Donations will be accepted at the gate and all money goes toward the Welles Crowther Charitable Trust. The trust, established in September 2001, honors the memory of Welles Remy Crowther (BC '99), who helped save at least a dozen lives during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center before losing his own life. Crowther was a four-year letterman on the Eagles varsity lacrosse team.
The other is the Baseball Beanpot next Monday, April 29 at Fenway Park, benefiting Pete Frates in his fight against ALS. The doubleheader pits Boston College and Harvard at 2 p.m. and Northeastern and UMass in the championship game at 5 p.m. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Pete Frates #3 Fund, named after 2006 Beanpot MVP and former BC captain Pete Frates.
Tickets are general admission and just $10. You can purchase tickets at www.redsox.com/beanpot, by calling 1-877-REDSOX-9 or at Gate D of Fenway Park.
Go Eagles!
