The Boston College baseball team was swept by the Duke Blue Devils down in Durham by scores of 11-0, 7-4 and 6-0. BC was out-scored 24-4 and out-hit 34-15 over the weekend, all while committed six errors. Not an April Fool's joke.
Game 1: Duke 13, Boston College 0
"Senior right-hander Hunter Gordon (0-3) shouldered the loss. He pitched 5.1 innings, allowed six hits, five runs - three earned - and struck out four. He did not issue a walk. Four relief pitchers took the mound for the Eagles and allowed seven hits, eight runs and five walks in 2.2 innings.
Freshman Joe Cronin was 1-for-1 with a single and three walks, reaching base safely in all four at bats in the lead-off spot. Junior Tom Bourdon was 1-for-4 with a double, the Eagles' only extra-base hit.
Blue Devil starter, left-handed Trent Swart (3-1), pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. He walked three and struck out six."
Game 2: Duke 7, Boston College 4
"Junior right-hander Eric Stevens (0-6) tallied the loss, pitching six innings and allowing six hits, five runs - three earned - five walks and striking out one. Graduate student left Nate Bayuk made his 100th career appearance in the seventh, allowing a hit, and striking out one.
Senior Matt Paré went 3-for-4 with two runs. The catcher also caught a runner stealing. Junior John Hennessy turned in a 2-for-4 performance in the first game.
Duke's right-handed starter Drew Van Orden (2-3) earned the win, going 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, three runs - all earned - and three walks. He struck out five. Righty Andrew Istler earned his sixth save, pitching the final two innings, allowing one hit, one run, no walks and three Ks."
Game 3: Duke 6, Boston College 0
"Redshirt freshman LHP Andrew Chin (1-6) shouldered the loss, but tallied a career-high eight strikeouts in the process. He went six innings, allowed nine hits, six runs - four earned - and two walks.
Duke's right-hander Robert Huber (4-2) pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits, one walk and striking out two. The Eagles flied out 18 times in the game."
