The disastrous early season start for the Boston College baseball team continues.
The Eagles took a three run lead to the bottom of the sixth before falling 5-4 to the Georgia State Panthers at Progress Energy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. The loss is the Eagles sixth in seven tries this season, with the team's only win a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Elon in the Phoenix's own tournament.
Starter Eric Stevens went 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits, walking one and striking out three. Righty Hunter Gordon (0-1) takes the loss in relief of Stevens, pitching the seventh and giving up two hits, two runs and a walk. LHP Tyler Hinchliffe pitched a scoreless eighth, walking one and striking out one.
Third baseman John Hennessy led the Eagles at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 and scoring one of the Eagles four runs. Left fielder Logan Hoggarth tallied two hits, while center fielder Tom Bourdon finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Here's Coach Gambino following the Game 1 loss to Georgia State.
The two teams return for the second game of the series tonight at 7 p.m. Eagles righty John Gorman (0-1, 6.75 ERA) gets the start, going up against Georgia State LHP Garrett Ford (1-1, 4.35).
