On Thursday, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors named Boston College senior running back Andre Williams the best running back in college football. The Walter Camp All-American team voters agreed, tabbing Williams as a first-team All-American at running back.
Williams is joined by Arizona junior running back Ka'Deem Carey on the first team. Washington's Bishop Sankey and Colorado State's Kapri Bibbs earned second-team honors at running back.
From the ACC, Williams is joined by Florida State kicker Robert Aguayo, Pitt DL Aaron Donald, Clemson DL Vic Beasley, and Florida State DB Lamarcus Joyner on the first-team. Florida State QB Jameis Winston, the odds-on favorite to win this year's Heisman Trophy, was named to the second-team behind Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.
This is just the start of the awards season, but an important first step for Williams. The NCAA recognizes the All-American teams selected by the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation to determine consensus All-American status. Receive first-team honors from three of these five organizations, a player can be considered a "consensus All-American." First team honors from all five gives a play the "unanimous All-American" recognition.
Should Williams find his way onto two more of the above first-team All-American teams, the senior RB would become the school's 12th different consensus All-American, joining Luke Urban, Gene Goodreault, Mike Holovak, Doug Flutie, Tony Thurman, Mike Ruth, Pete Mitchell, Mike Cloud, William Green, Jamie Silva and Luke Kuechly x2.
Williams becomes just the ninth Eagle to earn first-team Walter Camp All-American honors, joining Goodreault, Flutie, Thurman, Ruth, Mitchell, Green, Silva and Kuechly x2.
Congratulations Andre!
