College Football Playoff Selections Revealed: Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State In

This is way better than the BCS.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will announce the playoff semifinal pairings and site assignments live on ESPN's College Football Playoff Selection Show starting at 12:30 p.m. ET. Let's talk about it here.

Best guess as to how it all works out:

1. Oregon Ducks
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
3. Florida State Seminoles
4. Ohio State Buckeyes
-----------
5. Baylor Bears
6. TCU Horned Frogs

The Buckeyes took the Big XII dilemma out of the selection committee's hands with an emphatic 59-0 victory over a ranked Wisconsin team in the Big Ten Championship Game. The Big Ten's ties to the selection committee are pretty strong. I can't see guys like Barry Alvarez and Tom Osborne not finding a way to get Ohio State into the playoff. I'm sure there's also no love lost between Osborne and the Big XII.

Then, in the college football-iest move ever, Oregon jumps Alabama for the top spot so that the Rose Bowl can stage a traditional Pac-12 vs. Big Ten matchup. Alabama-Florida State in the Sugar.

At 2:45 p.m. Eastern, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee will announce the final top 25 rankings of the season as well as the bowl pairings for the Cotton, Fiesta, Peach and Orange. Keep an eye on where Michigan State (currently #8), Mississippi State (#10) and Ole Miss (#12) finish. If Sparty finishes as the top ranked team from the Big Ten or SEC, Michigan State will face Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl (and an ACC slot will open up in the Citrus Bowl).

Whether Arizona (#7) can stay in the top 11— and earn a Fiesta Bowl invite in the process—will also be important when it comes to the Pac-12 representative the ACC will face in the Sun Bowl.
