This week, BC Interruption’s Player of the Week is Sarah Johnson! Johnson is a Stanford transfer graduate student on the field hockey team. She was instrumental in BC’s overtime victory against UNH on Saturday, an important comeback after the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season the previous day.
Johnson started Saturday’s game strong, with a pass that led to the first goal off the game thanks to Margo Carlin’s redirection. UNH scored a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime, but another redirected Johnson pass resulted in a goal (this time scored by Lois Lekawael) early in the third quarter, allowing BC to tie the game up.
Both teams would score one more goal before the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime tied at 3. At 66:02, Johnson sent a penalty corner to Fusine Govaert. Govaert’s shot was saved, but Johnson was able to score off the save to give BC the overtime victory. The Eagles are now tied for their best season start ever at 7-1.
