Boston College announced earlier today that it’s set to play in the 2021 Sunshine Slam tournament in Daytona Beach this November.
Boston College will begin the tournament by hosting Holy Cross on November 12th. The Crusaders went 5-11 last year in the Patriot League and, despite how bad BC is expected to be, the Eagles should be favored here.
BC will then play Utah on November 20th in the first round of the championship bracket. Utah went 12-13 overall and 8-11 in the PAC-12 last year. Expect the Utes to be favored in this one, but it could very well be a winnable game for BC if head coach Earl Grant coaches up the team well enough in the offseason.
Following that game, BC will either play the winner or loser of the Rhode Island vs Tulsa match-up on November 21st. Rhode Island went 10-15 overall last year and 7-10 in the A-10 conference. Tulsa went 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the AAC. These teams are very mediocre and may be roughly at BC’s level next year, so it will be an interesting test of Earl Grant’s first season to see how well he may be able to out-coach the competition. Expectations are at the floor, but we may actually see some basketball wins here in this tournament if things bounce BC’s way.
