BC Interruption’s Award for Best Male Athlete of 2021 goes to Spencer Knight. Knight played his second and final season in net for the Boston College hockey team and put up numbers that could rival any goalie in the country.
Knight was fantastic all season for BC, putting up a .932 save percentage and a 16-4-1 record across his 21 games. He was the only unanimous selection to the Hockey East First Team and was also named the Hockey East player of the year. He also picked up his first and only assist as an Eagle in the team’s second game of the season against UMass.
Knight left BC after their season ended and joined the Florida Panthers in the NHL, where he went 4-0 in the regular season before picking up another win in a playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Panther’s have some big questions to answer this offseason at goalie, but Knight figures to be a big part of their future.
Four others received votes for this award: a trio of football players (Phil Jurkovec, Zay Flower, Hunter Long) as well as baseball’s Sal Frelick. Congrats to Spencer Knight and here’s hoping for even more success at the NHL level.
