Just about a month after helping the Boston College women’s lacrosse team defeat the Syracuse Orange in the 2021 National Championship game as an assistant coach, Kayla Treanor has been announced as the next head coach of the Orange.
Treanor graduated from Syracuse in 2016 and spent a season as an assistant coach for the Orange. She joined BC’s staff in summer 2017, and has been part of the Eagles’ most successful seasons.
Treanor has been a U.S. National Team member since 2013. At Syracuse, she was a three-time Tewaaraton Award finalist and a three-time WLCA Attacker of the Year. She was also an All-America in all 4 seasons of her college career.
Treanor is replacing Gary Gait, who helmed the team from 2007-2021. This month, Gait accepted a job as the head coach of the men’s lacrosse program at Syracuse.
The Eagles have a perfect replacement for Treanor waiting on the sidelines, as BC superstar Sam Apuzzo spent this past season as a graduate assistant. Apuzzo was BC’s first Tewaaraton Award and was a major factor in the team’s rise to prominence. Fingers crossed that she wants and is offered the job!
