The flood of preseason rankings is well underway in the college football world, as over the next few months prognosticators will make their predictions for the upcoming year. The other day, Athlon Sports released their preseason all-ACC teams, showing BC around midpack in the conference in terms of projected talent; today, Pro Football Focus released their preseason Elo rankings for every FBS team.
PFF is higher on BC than several other preseason rankings, slotting the Eagles in at #32 in the nation and #6 in the ACC.
Among ACC teams, BC ranked behind Clemson (#2), UNC (#11), Miami (#18), Pitt (#23), and Virginia Tech (#28).
PFF’s rankings are based on their own proprietary player grading formula.
Other already-released and prominent stat-based rankings are not as high on BC.
Bill Connelly’s football S&P+ projections have BC 62nd in the country.
ESPN’s Football Power Index slots BC in at #54 nationally, projecting an approximate record of 7-5 for the Eagles.
Obviously, fan expectations are much more in line with PFF’s projections - a team knocking on the door of national rankings and among the top group in the ACC Atlantic Division.
We’ll keep you posted as more preseason projections come in on the road to kickoff.
