Boston College fans have high hopes for the Eagles offense in the 2021 season, and it sounds like the prognosticators at Athlon at least agree to some extent, with 9 Eagles making their set of four preseason All-ACC teams, including 6 offensive players.
Athlon was highest on BC’s offensive line, with two first-teamers - Alec Lindstrom and Zion Johnson - and two second-teamers in Ben Petrula and Tyler Vrabel.
While Athlon was maybe a little lower on BC’s overall offensive toolkit than the fanbase is, they still doled out respect to Zay Flowers, on the first team as a wide receiver; and Phil Jurkovec, fourth-team quarterback.
The other Eagles tabbed in the rankings were defensive lineman Marcus Valdez (3rd team), punt returner Jaelen Gill (3rd team), and cornerback Josh DeBerry (4th team).
While these things always have to be taken with a grain of salt, it’s a decent measure of the respect for BC’s talent level, putting them squarely in the middle (7th) of the conference. Here’s how it compares to previous seasons:
2021 - 9
2020 - 8
2019 - 6
2018 - 9
2017 - 4
2016 - 6
2015 - 8
2014 - 5
Here’s hoping more than 9 find their way into receiving accolades on the postseason team.
