Steffon Mitchell, Boston College’s defensive leader for the past four years, is aiming for the NBA, as first reported by WZBC (and confirmed by Steffon Mitchell retweeting their announcement).
Senior Forward @MitchellSteffon has declared for the NBA Draft!

He will leave Boston College ranking 8th in total career rebounds with 871.
The Senior, who averaged 9.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists this year, was a fan favorite for the Eagle faithful who loved his grit, effort, and leadership on the court. While never the most potent offensive threat on the team, his defense and rebounding proved invaluable to the Eagles game in and game out. Perhaps most memorably, he put on a phenomenal defensive performance against Marvin Bagley III in 2017-18 en route to victory over #1 ranked Duke.
He departs the program a veritable swiss army knife, having played 108 total games and averaging 6.8 points, 8.1 boards, and 2.4 assists along the way. He was rewarded with a place on the 2019-2020 ACC All-Defensive team.
As a card-carrying member of the Steffon Mitchell Fan Club, I can’t help but note that under COVID-19 eligibility rules Mitchell could have returned for a 5th year if he had wanted. Maybe if BC looked like they were going to break through to the Big Dance next year, he might have (truly, if anyone deserved a tournament appearance in recent BC memory it’s got to be him, right?). But since that doesn’t appear to be the case, this is the right move for Steffon. He has the talent and attitude to succeed at the next level, and I wish him the best of luck.
Congratulations Steffon! We’re all rooting for you.
