After a year without playoff hockey due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Boston College advanced past New Hampshire with a 3-2 win on Sunday to qualify for the Hockey East men’s semifinals.
Now, their matchup and game time is set - #1 seed BC will take on #7 UMass-Lowell on Wednesday at 4:30 PM. The game will be televised live on NESN, streamed inside New England at NESN.com, and streamed outside of New England on CollegeSportsLive.com.
The other semifinal will feature #3 seed UMass-Amherst hosting #5 seed Providence College. That game will start at approximately 7:00 PM and will also be on NESN and College Sports Live.
Unlike in previous years, when the Hockey East semifinals took place at TD Garden, this year, the whole tournament is taking place on campus sites.
As the #1 seed in the tournament, BC will host their semifinal, and if they win, they will host the Hockey East final on Saturday night at 7 PM (also on NESN).
BC’s opponent in Wednesday’s semifinal, UMass-Lowell, advanced by virtue of upsetting #2 seed BU at Walter Brown Arena on Saturday.
The River Hawks have become a fixture in the Hockey East semifinals under coach Norm Bazin, and are seeking their fourth conference championship. Lowell last won the Hockey East title in 2017, when they beat the Eagles in the final at TD Garden.
The Eagles have won 11 Hockey East tournament titles, but haven’t won this trophy since 2012.
Earlier this season, BC swept UMass-Lowell in a two game set, blowing out the River Hawks 7-1 at home on February 12, before digging themselves out of an early 2-0 deficit in the game at Lowell on February 13 and coming back to win 4-3.
With their quarterfinal wins, BC’s record now sits at 17-4-1, while Lowell is 8-8-1.
