The Boston College baseball team won their ACC-opening slate at Duke this weekend, taking 2-of-3 in Durham over the #25 team in the county to improve to 5-1 (2-1 ACC) to start the season.

Emmet Sheehan picked up the victory this afternoon as the Eagles won the rubber match 5-2. Sophomore second baseman Luke Gold continued his hot start to the season with a two-run homer that put the Eagles up for good.

The victory followed an unconventional doubleheader split on Saturday. Friday’s game was halted by rain tied 5-5 after 6 innings, but the Eagles put on a late-innings onslaught to win 10-6 after the resumption of play on Saturday.

Duke won Saturday’s nightcap 10-3, but BC recovered to pick up the series win today.

Six games into the season, BC’s offense is as advertised, hammering the ball in back to back weekends against two quality opponents, averaging over 8.6 runs per game. If BC continues to get strong starting pitching performances like they did today, they will be a threat in the ACC.

BC resumes play next weekend with another three game ACC set at Wake Forest. Stay tuned for the drop of this week’s polls, as it seems likely BC may get some national attention after their hot start.
