Boston College men’s basketball game vs. Georgia Tech postponed due to COVID-19 issues

NCAA Basketball: Boston College at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It’s certainly been an eventful 24 hours for Boston College basketball.

One day after head coach Jim Christian was fired, BC’s next game - a matchup scheduled for Wednesday against Georgia Tech - has been postponed due to issues with COVID-19, according to Jon Rothstein.

This comes on the heels of BC player Wynston Tabbs will miss the rest of the season due to COVID-19 protocol violations.

While we do not know what specifically prompted the cancellation of tomorrow’s game, rumors have been swirling that BC may have additional COVID contacts within its players or staff and that the team may have to pause the season yet again - so it seems possible that something is up on the BC side. We will follow up on those rumors as more information becomes available.*

For now, Scott Spinelli’s debut as interim coach will have to wait. BC is next scheduled to play UNC on Tuesday, February 23, at 9 PM.

*UPDATE, 11:21 AM: The official release from the ACC says “The postponement follows the continuing quarantining and contact tracing within the Boston College men’s basketball program.”
