Boston College has fired men’s basketball coach Jim Christian after nearly seven seasons and a 78-132 record.
Scott Spinelli will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season, starting with Wednesday’s game against Georgia Tech. The Eagles lost to Syracuse 75-67 on Saturday to fall to 3-13 on the season.
The end of Christian’s tenure at BC is not surprising - rumors persisted that Christian was potentially on the outs after last year’s 13-19 season before COVID-19 upended everything.
That said, the timing is somewhat surprising - the axe falling midseason is extremely rare in recent Boston College athletics history. Based on information available on Coaches Database, a look at BC’s history going back to 1977 says no men’s basketball coaches have been fired midseason during that time.
The front page will be updated as more information becomes available about what’s next for BC basketball.
