Boston College faced Merrimack tonight in the first of a 2 game series, with tonight’s game being played at Merrimack.
BC started the scoring early, as Mike Posma but BC up 1-0 with his first goal of his BC career. The teams traded penalties and possessions for must of the remainder of the period, but Drew Helleson buried a one-timer on a late Merrimack penalty to put the Eagles up 2-0.
The score held through the second, although the Eagles dominated the scoring chances and took a 30-13 shots on goal lead into the third period.
Merrimack started getting pretty chippy in the third, but a weak mistake left the puck open right in front of their own net and Brandon Kruse and Nikita Nesterenko set up the play for Kruse to make it 3-0 Eagles in the middle of the period.
The Warriors cut into BC’s lead and broke Eric Dop’s shutout attempt with just under 5 minutes to go in regulation, making the score 3-1 BC. The Eagles ended regulation on a penalty kill, but Merrimack pulled their goalie and Patrick Giles sent the puck down the ice to score for a 4-1 BC victory. The teams will meet again tomorrow at Conte.
