Perhaps lost in all the "should Jeff Hafley change QBs" conversation is what the impact is of losing Phil Jurkovec. Probably for the best that after at least the Clemson game, people focused on the present and for the most part, dropped the "what ifs".
For a minute though, let's bring that back and ask the question, "how important is Phil Jurkovec"?
A college quarterback's impact against the point spread isn't something that's been deeply dissected. By many estimates an elite NFL QB though is worth up to 6 points a game...but if we can't quantify it way, how about their value at the next level..and for that, this nugget from sometimes love him, many don't, NFL Draft Guru, Mel Kiper, who lists Jurkovec as the 6h rated QB in the draft class of 2022.
Of course, this is a fluid situation and Pitt's Kenny Pickett who wasn't on anyone's board just a few weeks ago, has ascended to the #1 eligible QB...but consider who the others are.
1. Kenny Picket - Pitt - team record - 6-1
2. Matt Corral - Ole Miss - team record - 6-1
3. Desmond Ridder - Cincinnati - team record - 7-0
4. Malik Willis - Liberty - team record - 6-2
5. Sam Howell - North Carolina - team record - 4-3
6. Phil Jurkovec - Boston College - team record - 4-3
It's not a great draft class, but he's the only one on this list not playing and if he returns for 2022 would instantly make him the ACCs best returning QB.
2021 assuredly has a very different vibe to it right now with Jurkovec at QB. The question now is whether we see him back in Chestnut Hill to fulfill that promise in 2022.
