There were a few good candidates for the BCI Player of the Week this week, but Hannah Bilka was the clear winner.

Bilka and the women’s hockey team remain undefeated after defeating Maine 5-2 this weekend, a win in which Bilka played a major role. The Eagles scored 4 goals in the first period, making it nearly impossible for Maine to stage a comeback.

Bilka set the mood for the game early, getting around a Maine defender 5 minutes in to send a pass to Abby Newhook, who scored and put BC up 1-0. Just 3 minutes and 20 seconds later, Bilka scored her own goal to put the Eagles up 2-0. She took the puck into the right circle, set up a wrister, and saw it deflect off a Black Bears defender into the net.

Midway through the third period, no Eagles had scored since the first period and Maine had cut BC’s lead to 4-2. Bilka showed up for her team again, putting Maine’s comeback hopes to bed with a beautiful goal. She grabbed a Maine player’s pass in the neutral zone, skated up to Maine’s goal, and scored with an unassisted wrist shot to secure the 5-2 final score.
